Today, mobile phones do much more than allow us to make and receive voice calls. All current mobile phones allow SMS text messaging, which enables us to send and receive short text messages. Some mobile phones will support all of these connection methods but using them will depend on whether or not your network service provider supports them or not. Most network service providers today support GPRS (classed as 2G) and many now support EDGE (classed as 2.5G) and an increasing number offer WCDMA services (classed as 3G). 3G capable mobile phones, running on 3G networks, enable the possibility of video calling and high speed data.
Some high-end phones also have wi-fi support. Wi-fi is a great, inexpensive way of connecting to the internet (avoiding data charges), providing you have access to a wi-fi hotspot.
